Beginning with the invention of photography in the 19th century, the death of painting has been proclaimed with regularity for over a century, and yet, painting remains vital in the face of a spectacular digital world. This lecture will examine why painting matters, in 2012, as a way to picture the world, by looking at the work of several painters who push the medium to its limits.
