#003 Mariposa Mural
created by more than 1,000 hands
The Mariposa Mural was Nimbus Arts’ third “Hundreds of Hands™” community art project. Girls from Mariposa, a Napa County Public School-based empowerment and leadership program for Latina youth, worked with community groups throughout the valley from 2013-2015 to create more than 400 mosaic butterflies. These community-created butterflies are the focal point of the beautiful two panel mural depicting the Mariposa organization’s mission and vision of empowerment and life free of abuse. This work is permanently installed at the Cope Family Center, located at 707 Randolph Street, Napa, CA. This Mariposa Mural was made possible through the support by 3.1 Phillip Lim; Backen, Gillam and Kroeger Architects; Michael G. Earls Family; Napa County District Attorney’s Office; Napa Valley Vintners; NICOLEHOLLIS; St. Helena Hospital; Claire and Steven Stull; Laurie Mauer Shelton; West Pueblo Partners; 74 Generous Community Members; The Nimbus Arts Leadership Circle 2015. Community Art Partners, BURGERFI; Cameo Cinema; Centric Construction; Clif Bar Family Foundation; Cope Family Center; Farmstead Restaurant; Gott’s Roadside; Level Design; Napa County Office of Education; and Seattle Mosaic Arts. Contributing and supporting Nimbus Artists, Melissa Baker; Mercedes Baker; Claire Barnett; Jamie Graff; Anne Pentland; and Napa Valley Unified School District Students enrolled in the Mariposa Program and our Napa Valley Community Artists all contributed to the design and fabrication of the Mariposa Mosaic. “Our staff, families, volunteers and neighbors LOVE the Hundreds of Hands™ mural. It brings so much beauty and hope to our neighborhood. Thank you, Nimbus, for being an advocate for community art and engaging the Mariposa group to bring this gift to Napa.” Joelle Gallagher, Executive Director, Cope Family CenterMORE
