#010  Community Tree of Life

Nimbus Arts honored families through “Tree of Life,” our Hundreds of Hands Community Art Initiative #010. This important initiative leveraged the power of art to foster family connections and strengthen community through a collaboration between COPE Family Center, Nimbus Arts and the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Napa County. Tree of Life was developed to recognize and support Child Abuse Prevention Month April 2021. After a traumatic year of stress, isolation, fear and loss due to the global pandemic and two local wildfires, artmaking became an even more important outlet for self-expression and social connection. The art elements created by community members, almost all in family units, became elements of the “Tree of Life” installations, symbolizing community and family resilience and strength.

Over 100 art kits were developed and assembled by Nimbus Arts and provided through COPE Family Center and other local family-serving organizations. Completed artwork was returned to Nimbus and assembled into two large scale installations. The installations were displayed in downtown Napa at the Napa County District Attorney’s building and in downtown St. Helena.

County of Napa Mental Health, Innovations Initiative, Napa Valley Vintners, The John Brockway Huntington Foundation, The Peter A. & Vernice H. Gasser Foundation, and the Michael D. & Jolynn Blair Family Foundation all provided funds and resources to make this important and timely community art initiative possible.
